Telkom University once again presents an inspiring academic activity through the Master’s Program in Industrial Engineering Guest Lecture as part of the 19th Academic View Series. This activity raises an important theme surrounding research methodology and scientific publication strategies that are relevant for students and academics.
Exploring Research Methodology and Publication Strategies
The Master’s Program in Industrial Engineering at Telkom University successfully held a guest lecture titled “Good Research Methodology in Practice: Do’s and Don’ts and Choosing the Right Publication Outlet”. This activity was conducted online via Zoom on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 08:00 to 12:00 WIB.
This guest lecture serves as a very important learning platform, especially for students who are currently preparing their thesis as well as those who want to improve the quality of their scientific publications. The topics discussed not only cover theory but also real practices in the world of research and academic publication.
Featuring Experienced Speakers
This activity was moderated by Nadia Daliana, a Master’s student in Industrial Engineering at Telkom University, who guided the discussion in an interactive and communicative manner.
The participants who attended appeared enthusiastic in following every session, especially during the question-and-answer session. Many questions were raised regarding challenges in research and publication, showing the high interest of students in this topic.
This event featured two speakers who are experts in their fields, namely:
Prof. Markus Hartono – Professor of Industrial Engineering from Universitas Surabaya (Ubaya)
Farell Ardani, M.T. – Alumnus of the Master’s Program in Industrial Engineering at Telkom University and a PhD student at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST)
Both provided in-depth insights related to their experiences in conducting research and publishing in reputable scientific journals.
Prof. Markus Hartono in his presentation emphasized the importance of careful research planning from the beginning. He raised the topic “Research Design to Research Execution for On-Time Graduation”, which is highly relevant for postgraduate students.
Meanwhile, Farell Ardani, M.T. discussed strategies in selecting the right publication outlet through the topic “Selection of Research Outputs (Journals and Proceedings)”. He explained how to determine suitable journals so that research can have optimal impact.
The Importance of Research Methodology and Scientific Publication Strategies
In the academic world, research methodology and scientific publication are two important aspects that are interconnected in determining the quality of a research. Through this guest lecture, participants understand that good research must begin with careful planning, starting from clear problem formulation, appropriate selection of research methods, to the preparation of a systematic research flow. In addition, various common mistakes (do’s and don’ts) that often occur were also discussed, as well as the importance of time management so that research can be completed effectively and on time.
On the other hand, strategies in scientific publication also became a major concern. Participants were given insights on how to choose reputable journals, understand the differences between journals and proceedings, and increase the chances of article acceptance. Students were also reminded to avoid predatory journals and ensure the suitability of research topics with the scope of the targeted journals. By mastering these two aspects, it is expected that students will be able to produce quality research with a high opportunity to be published at both national and international levels.
Conclusion
This Guest Lecture of the Master’s Program in Industrial Engineering at Telkom University becomes an important momentum for students to gain a deeper understanding of research methodology and scientific publication strategies.
By presenting experienced speakers and applicable materials, this activity is expected to help students in completing their research effectively and improving the quality of their publications.
In the future, similar activities are expected to continue to be carried out as part of efforts to produce graduates who are competent, productive, and ready to compete in both academic and industrial worlds.
